What is the best free period tracker in the UK?

Free choices in the UK are Apple Cycle Tracking (built into iPhone), Euki and drip (free, open source, local-only) and Splash (free, no paid tier, no account). Flo and Clue are free to start but keep some features in Flo Premium and Clue Plus. Natural Cycles is a paid contraceptive app. We make Splash, so every claim about the others is sourced.

What matters for a UK user?

  • Symptom Checker. Flo says its Symptom Checker is not available in the UK or EU, so a Premium subscription would not unlock it here.
  • NHS wording. Look for guidance that matches NHS and NICE, such as the NHS ranges for irregular periods and the UK pregnancy schedule. Splash’s library cites NHS, NICE, FSRH and RCOG, and its pregnancy checklist follows the NHS schedule in England. It is not affiliated with the NHS.
  • Where your data goes. Clue is Berlin-based and under GDPR; Splash stores optional encrypted backups in the EU (Paris). Euki, drip and Splash without an account keep data on your device.
  • Not contraception. Natural Cycles is FDA-cleared as birth control, and Clue has a separate FDA-cleared product. Free trackers are for understanding your cycle.

How do I choose?

  • Want everything free, with sharing and a doctor report, and no account: Splash.
  • Want the most private and simplest, and are fine with no sync: Euki or drip.
  • Use iPhone and Apple Watch only: Apple Cycle Tracking.
  • Want a very large library and community and are happy to pay for Premium: Flo.
  • Value named clinician authors and EU jurisdiction: Clue.

Questions people ask

Is Flo free in the UK?

Flo has a free plan with period and ovulation predictions, symptom logging, a calendar and Secret Chats. Premium adds cycle patterns, expert courses, a Health Assistant and, on iOS, a doctor report. Its Symptom Checker is not available in the UK or EU. Flo offers monthly, yearly and Family plans, and prices vary by region.

Is Clue free?

Clue has a free version that remains available. Clue Plus, a paid monthly or yearly subscription, adds sharing your own cycle through Clue Connect, Conceive mode and Perimenopause mode, and fuller pregnancy insights. Pregnancy mode has a basic free version. Viewing a cycle someone shares with you is free.

Do free period trackers have adverts?

It varies. Mozilla’s July 2026 review found Period Calendar was the only one of six tested apps relying on advertising for revenue. Apple Cycle Tracking, Euki, drip and Splash have no subscription. Splash is not funded by advertising today, and its privacy policy says we would update it and ask for consent before any ad-related processing.

Is Splash really free?

Yes. There is no subscription, no paid tier and no in-app purchases, and every feature is included. Splash is a small independent project run by WhealBit in St Ives, Cornwall. If pricing ever changes we will say so clearly in advance, and you can export a full backup of your data at any time.
