Which period tracker is best for perimenopause?

Use a tracker that copes with irregular cycles and lets you log hot flushes, sleep and mood, then summarise them for your GP. Splash’s perimenopause mode widens predictions, does not nag about late periods and tracks HRT, free; Clue’s Perimenopause mode is part of Clue Plus. NICE says a GP can usually diagnose perimenopause from symptoms if you are over 45.

What is perimenopause, and when does it start?

Perimenopause is the run-up to menopause, when hormone levels change and periods become irregular before they stop. The NHS says menopause usually affects people between 45 and 55 but can happen earlier. Symptoms can include hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, low mood, brain fog and changes to your periods.

For anyone over 45 with typical symptoms, NICE guidance says perimenopause can usually be diagnosed from your symptoms and history, without blood tests. An app cannot diagnose it, but a clear log helps that conversation.

What should I track in perimenopause?

  • Period dates, length, flow and spotting, including long gaps and surprise bleeds.
  • Hot flushes and night sweats, and what time of day they happen.
  • Sleep, mood, anxiety and brain fog.
  • HRT or other medicines: when you start, stop or change, so you can compare how you feel before and after.
  • Anything else you plan to raise with your GP.

How do I use my log at the GP?

Choose the months you want and print the Splash doctor report, save a PDF, or send your clinician an expiring end-to-end encrypted link. It puts cycle lengths, flow, symptoms, mood and notes in one place, with questions to ask. It does not diagnose; it makes a short appointment more useful. Questions people ask

Can a period tracker tell me if I am in perimenopause?

No. An app can show your cycles getting longer, shorter or less predictable, and record symptoms, but it cannot diagnose perimenopause. A GP can usually do that from your symptoms and history if you are over 45, as NICE guidance describes. A log makes that conversation quicker and clearer.

Do I still need to track my period in perimenopause?

Yes, if you want to. Periods can become irregular, then stop, and pregnancy is still possible until menopause is confirmed. Tracking dates, flow and bleeding patterns also helps a GP spot anything unusual, such as heavy or between-period bleeding.

Does Splash track HRT?

Yes. Note when you start, stop or change HRT, then use Insights to compare how hot flushes, sleep and mood differ before and after. The doctor report can include it. Splash does not recommend treatments; talk to your GP or a menopause specialist about what suits you.

Is there a free perimenopause app in the UK?

Splash’s perimenopause mode is free with no paid tier, and Apple Cycle Tracking is free on iPhone. Clue’s Perimenopause mode and Natural Cycles’ perimenopause mode are paid. Some NHS areas also offer their own symptom-tracking apps, so ask your GP surgery.
